The Round Mirror... love love it!

I have seen them all over and I love it the round mirror..... It is a fantastic accent in any space. They work well in groupings, over the bed, over the mantle piece. Mirrors also provide an extension of any space by reflecting the objects, the colors in a space and help bring the outdoors in. Using mirrors throughout your space to create a sense of depth is a great design tool. I have brought together some of my favorites here! Halloween Inspired Design

Halloween Inspired Design - What I love most about the holiday season is the transformation our homes undertake in terms of color and design. In the spirit of the quickly approaching Halloween holiday, I decided to include a few items inspired by the rich black and vibrant orange that is reminiscent of this spooktacular event. Although Halloween usually calls for ghoulish ghosts perched near your doorway, witches brooms stacked against the wall, or sticky cobwebs invading every door frame in your home, you can take a simpler approach to designing your home with this autumn holiday in mind. The colors of Halloween can be paired with warm fall colors to create a stunningly gorgeous design in any room of your choice. Bringing in a burnt orange accent color on couch pillows or hanging colored photography reflecting plump pumpkins and rustling autumn leaves will transform your home in seconds. Your home may not be in line with the spookiest of décor but there’s no doubt that you’ll have

Timeless Clocks for Modern Homes

Timeless Clocks for Modern Homes - Time. We write about it, sing about it, study it, race against it, base our days around it, lose sleep worrying about it... and most of all, we measure it. Sundials, hourglasses, egg timers, watches, and the phases of the moon are all effective ways to determine this fundamental quantity, but the most beautiful way to measure time in your home is with a modern clock. Writer, teacher and designer George Nelson, one of the founding fathers of American Modernism, created imaginative timekeepers that would even have Big Ben doing a double-take. He believed in thinking outside of the box and creating fresh designs. “I’m a convinced modernist... there was no point whatever in trying to beat the ancients at their own game,” Nelson once said. He believed his products should be honest and took pride in his work. “The simple joy of taking an idea into one’s own hands and giving it proper form, that’s exciting,” he said. Nelson’s mid-century designs r

How to Paint a Door to Boost Your Curb Appeal

When one door opens, you meet a friend! I met Katie when placing an order for vinyl house numbers. I originally wanted them for my door but it didn't work out (my doors have windows and it just wasn't going to look right) but I had to use my cute numbers somewhere! So I used them on my flower pots and get so many kind comments. :) In our subdivision, lots of houses round here look pretty similar. So, Memorial Day I treated myself to a pretty curb appeal project by painting my front door. I'll tell you right now, I'm not a professional, but I got the job done. And I think it looks lots better than the original. If you want to do the same, here's what I did: Start with an ordinary boring door that looks like everyone else's. Check. Clean said door thoroughly with soapy water. Take an exacto blade and clean any bug guts, mud, or any other gross stuff off. If you've put any vinyl on your door previously, use your blade to remove it, and get some

Glass Furniture, Mirrored Furniture, Modern Venetian Mirrors

Glass Furniture, Mirrored Furniture, Modern Venetian Mirrors - A mirror by the front door is handy for checking one's hair is tidy, of course. But mirrors are far more than simple looking-glasses; used imaginatively, they can create the illusion of space or camouflage less-than-perfect features. Glass is hugely versatile and can also be surprisingly tough. Mirrored furniture, fire-surrounds, and even glass floors can add a clean, elegant sparkle to a room. Bathroom Wall Mirrors

Bathroom Wall Mirrors If your bathroom is in need of an update and you are looking for inexpensive ways to reinvigorate the space, consider adding a frame to your mirror. Most of us have a boring sheet glass mirror hanging on the wall, yet it serves as the focal point of our bathroom. What can you do to add some pizazz to this important bathroom fixture? You could pull it down and purchase a framed mirror to hang in its place, but that leads to the expense of removal and disposal. Furthermore there's the cost to fix the paint or wallpaper behind the mirror. Why not frame the existing mirror to give it a custom look found in high-end homes and design magazines? Framing a mirror can be easily handled by anyone from the do-it-yourselfer to the husband or wife that's all thumbs. Depending on your skill level and budget, there are several ways to complete a mirror framing project: For those that want professional help, a carpenter or cabinet builder is a great place to start.
