Timeless Clocks for Modern Homes - Time. We write about it, sing about it, study it, race against it, base our days around it, lose sleep worrying about it... and most of all, we measure it. Sundials, hourglasses, egg timers, watches, and the phases of the moon are all effective ways to determine this fundamental quantity, but the most beautiful way to measure time in your home is with a modern clock.
Writer, teacher and designer George Nelson, one of the founding fathers of American Modernism, created imaginative timekeepers that would even have Big Ben doing a double-take. He believed in thinking outside of the box and creating fresh designs.
“I’m a convinced modernist... there was no point whatever in trying to beat the ancients at their own game,” Nelson once said. He believed his products should be honest and took pride in his work. “The simple joy of taking an idea into one’s own hands and giving it proper form, that’s exciting,” he said.
Nelson’s mid-century designs really give clock-watchers something to look at! His wall clocks, such as the Sunburst Wall Clock and Ball Clock, have been newly reintroduced by manufacturer Vitra and have transformed simple measuring devices into sculptural works of art. Bold colors, sharp lines, contemporary shapes, and high quality materials make these tickers perfect to hang in the heart of any sophisticated home or office.
